Metal forming represents an important production technology in Europe. Virtually any product – from aerospace to automotive and household sector - contains formed metal components. The forming tool itself is critical for performance improvement in the metal forming process.
The HiperFormTool aims at developing tools for three demonstrator applications to significantly reduce lubrication, scrap rate and cycle time and by improving the part quality. This will be achieved by three novel tooling components to be manufactured by the additive manufacturing technology of Laser Beam Melting: i) thermal management for heating and cooling, ii) in-process lubrication system, and iii) multi-sensor tool for process monitoring.
These next generation metal forming tools will adopt a modular system for enhanced flexibility and provide new knowledge on metal forming processes through simulation of Laser Beam Melting technologies for other industries.
