Novel roll to roll production platform for the manufacture of microfluidic devices
The proposal R2RMAN aims to contribute to the research of microfabrication processes, by the development of a novel manufacturing process based on roll to roll (R2R) for the high throughput production of polymer substrate based product solutions. Specifically, a R2R technology platform for new generation of low-cost miniaturized and portable lab-on-a-chip (LOCs) devices for microfluidics will be delivered. In this sense, the platform will be based on three main processes: substrate processing and microstructuring, printing method for the continuous integration of the electrodes on the substrate and encapsulation. This combination of technologies aims at improving the current manufacturing processes, not only by decreasing materials consumption and improving operating conditions, but also by reducing fabrication environmental impact.
