Tuscany Region, as public body, has relevant functions in terms of economic development and promotion of the technology transfer from the research environment to the market. In particular, Tuscany Region manages Structural Funds (ERDF, EARDF and ESF) and national funds through which supports policies and measures to strengthen regional competitiveness. The Region has also defined a Regional Innovation Strategy and the smart manufacturing is one of the 3 technological priorities at the core of RIS3 for Tuscany. Since the 2000s the Region has put in place measures to fund projects dedicated to industrial research and experimental development. The Region used these measures also to join different ERA-Net networks (ERA-Star Manunet/Manunet II, Era-SME, Crosstexnet, Biophotonic Plus and PhotonicSensing) where several transnational joint calls have been implemented.
